This thread will detail the basics of what a VPN does, and what applications it has you can benefit from as a botter.
First and foremost, Your IP address is like your virtual street address.
Wikipedia describes your IP address as a numerical label assigned to each device (e.g., computer, printer) participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication.
When playing Wow, Your IP is the most commonly used method of identification for your account.
What does a VPN do exactly?
A VPN is a virtual private network, It allows your internet traffic to be securely transmitted through private servers.
Think of it like you mailing your cable bill to your friend, and then your friend mailing that bill in to the cable office.
This secondary "hub" ensures your home IP and information associated with it are kept secure. Even if hackers on the Internet find you surfing or playing games, While under the protection of the VPN, Your actual IP address and secure information is safe.
Here is a list of common uses for a VPN service.
* Keep your primary Wow account (non botted) safe from association with your botted accounts.
* Keep your home IP address unassociated with botting
(in case other people play wow in your house)
* Many uses in gold farming, gold selling, power leveling, and other Wow services.
* You can never be banned from any game, website, forum, or anything that uses your IP as identification.
* Added layer of security when doing online shopping, Such as eBay and using Paypal.
Things to know when using a VPN service:
* Wow uses your IP to identify you when logging in.
A security feature in Wow called "automated account lock" happens when your account is logged in from two separate addresses in a short period of time.
You then have to go to battle.net and unlock your account via E mail.
To avoid this, Be sure to put some time (at least 1 hour) between your last login and your next login if you change IP addresses for any reason.
A basic example:
If you log in to Wow with your regular home IP, You will need to wait at least 1 hour before logging into that same account with your VPN Enabled.
This also applies to changing servers/locations with your VPN,
If you log in from Russia, then 15 minutes later you log in from New York,
You will undoubtedly run into an automated account lock.
* If for any reason your Wow account gets banned,
Using a VPN service and logging in from different locations at random intervals (changing your location every week or two) will cause Blizzard to look at your account history and believe you may have been "hacked".
You can almost always get your account unbanned and restored by using this method,
As far as they can tell your Wow account was logged in from multiple locations within whatever time period, It adds credibility to claiming your account was compromised.
Keep in mind a VPN service is not required for using bots, In most cases you will never need to worry about your personal security.
But an added layer of protection never hurts, and It's really simple to setup and use.
No technical knowledge is required.
