It had paid content, but the profiles were open source, editable with text editors. Really hard to do anything to prevent redistrubtion when the profiles are easily copyable with no access control.
I made tons of free profiles, just basic xml. Never saw a red cent.
And if by later on you mean in cata? Yeah, there were custom classes, custom bot bases, custom plugins by then.
Problem is that a lot of that bot's functions where injected. Where as now its all done from lua, hence the need to unlock protected lua functions.
